Introduction to Tufting POP UP CLASS - Saturday October 7, 2023

We are back at North Market for this Introduction To Tufting pop up class, Saturday October 7th - Join us and learn how to make your own rug from start to finish. 

About the event

Tufting is a type of textile weaving used to make things like hats, gloves, coasters, and — you guessed it — rugs! The process uses a canvas stretched over a frame, a tufting gun, and yarn to create any number of Insta-worthy artistries. In this class, you will be learning how to create small- to medium-sized rugs of your very own. From instructor Neeka Jackson: “I know what it’s like to learn something for the first time, so I like to specialize in making sure that everyone that I’m teaching is going to have a fun, stress-free, easy-going experience, no matter the skill level. If you’ve never tufted before — perfect, I’ll show you the ropes (or yarns, I suppose). If this isn’t your first tufting rodeo and you need your own gun and frame + workspace to tuft, I’ve got you as well.”

Your instructor will provide the following materials:

• 3’x3′ stand tufting frame
• Cut pile tufting gun
• Monks cloth fabric
• Yarn
• Loop wire threader
• Carpet shear
• Rug/carpet adhesive

Students are asked to bring:

• snacks, water or lunch, there is food on sight as well.

Skill Level No experience required.

Age Requirement Students ages 16 and older are welcome to attend. (Ages 16-17 require parent permission)

Plenty of parking should be available in the open parking lot.

Because this class occurs during regular business hours, please feel free to use the front entrance to the building. Please ring my cell if you have any questions.

This class has a $25 materials fee, which covers all supplies necessary for the class. Participants are encouraged to send  a design (as a .jpg or .png file) that they would like to create, as well as the materials fee (VENMO @NeekaJackson or CASHAPP $NeekaJsodope) in advance of the class.  You may email me your desired design as well localruggcustom@gmail.com

Please keep in mind that this is a beginners class, I encourage all students to choose a minimal design with as few small details as possible. 3-4 colors is ideal if you have any questions. Again, I'm here to help.

Note: this workshop requires participants to stand for long periods at a time. Please bring a K-95 face mask to wear when gluing the rug.

If you registered for a friend or someone else, please be sure to share this information with them, as we do not collect their emails when you register for another guest. Masks are now optional in my class. I ask that you please continue to wash your hands frequently and social distance to the best of your abilities to do your part to keep us all safe and healthy. If you are experiencing ANY COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms, please do not come to class. Simply email me before the start of class and I will transfer your registration costs to another class.
