Introduction to Tufting - Saturday September 23, 2023

Join The Tuft Club, and make a small hand-tufted rug of your own design! Learn the basic skills needed to machine tuft your own small 2×3 ft rug and how to build an at-home tufting practice. Participants will make a tufted rug from start to finish, including a step-by-step process for designing, selecting materials, framing, and applying fabric for your tufted piece, as well as how to tuft with a tufting machine.

Materials fee is $90, payable to the instructor at the time of the class. All materials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to send the instructor a design (as a .jpg or .png file) that they would like to create, as well as the materials fee (VENMO @NeekaJackson) in advance of the class. Note: this workshop requires that participants stand for longer periods at a time. Please bring a K-95 face mask to wear when gluing the rug.

Ruled by fire and fueled by passion & action, Neeka Jackson (she/her) is always the first to question how and why. When she first learned about Tufting, she had many questions. At the end of said questioning, she devoted herself to the art of rug-making. Neeka is a passionate Tufting artist, is in charge of her own rug brand, works at a library, and loves all things techie. She has a background in fashion, dance, and music (she has been DJ-ing for over a decade), all of which merge together in her creative practice. Neeka is a patient teacher and is eager to share her love of Tufting with others!     @localruggdealer
